The Hollywood Bowl is a Los Angeles icon and conveniently for us, just a quick walk from Loews Hollywood Hotel. With the LA Philharmonic, and a handful of other popular artists, calling this famous venue home for the summer, we thought it only right to share our knowledge on how to get the most out of your summer concert experience.

Always Be Prepared

First things first, if you haven’t heard… the Hollywood Bowl allows outside food and beverage on LA Phil performance evenings (lease events may differ), but I didn’t realize to what extent concert-goers go to to enjoy this luxury. For my first concert, I naively brought a large cookie and purchased a glass of wine once inside… #newbiealert! I was shocked to see that others around me brought insulated bags filled with bottles of wine, fried chicken, cheese boards, you name it. So my next visit I came much more prepared and made a stop at Loews Hollywood’s Bodega prior to the performance. The essential trick is to find a durable but lightweight insulated bag and fill it with whatever your heart desires. This time around I opted to bring a small bottle of both red and white wine (you never know which mood you’ll be in), a meat and cheese pack, veggie straws, hummus, dark chocolate covered BarkThins, and of course lots of water. Take a tip from me though: Don’t forget to bring something to drink your wine out of… whoops!

Get Your Steps In

Lucky for us, this scenic concert venue is located less than one mile away from Loews Hollywood. As any LA local knows, traffic down Highland Avenue is particularly bad on Bowl nights — so skip the stressful drive up the road and enjoy a nice walk. It’s a quick and safe 10-minute stroll that only takes you through two intersections. Grab your insulated picnic bag and get moving: you’ll save money and a headache trying to dodge traffic both on your way in and back out. Check out this hyperlapse video I took of my recent trip to see how easy of an adventure it really is!

Eat, Drink and Have Fun

Depending on your preference of bringing your own goodies or ordering something from their restaurants onsite, we suggest getting to the venue early enough to take advantage of their picnic areas. Bring a blanket and spread out on a grassy area or snag a picnic table in the plaza if you can. It’s an exciting environment filled with locals enjoying a cool summer evening before the show begins. If you’re like me though, I enjoy taking my goodies to my seat and watching the sun set above the picturesque Hollywood Hills backdrop.

See you at the bowl!
