Annapolis

Ready, set, sail! The Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show is the perfect opportunity to spend your weekend on the water. From April 28–30, sailing enthusiasts will gather for the sixth annual in-water show in the historic sailing capital of the world. And if you’re staying at the luxurious Loews Annapolis Hotel, you don’t have far to travel to ensure that you don’t miss a thing!

The show will take place at the Annapolis City Dock, and visitors will get a chance to see the latest catamarans, monohulls, family cruisers, day sailors, blue water sailboats and more. There will also be plenty of vendors of boating-related products and services on hand. And on Saturday at noon, you’ll be able to catch Annapolis high schools compete in the third annual Annapolis Junior Keelboat Regatta.

All Hands-on Deck Demos

New this year are the in-water demos at Ego Alley at City Dock, which will feature small sailboats, kayaks, inflatables and model boats. Venture out and see the demonstrations along the dock such as the Topaz Sailboats, ultra-modern award winning sailing dinghies and catamarans distributed exclusively by East Coast Sailboats, Inc. of North Carolina.

If you’re more of a yacht person (and who isn’t?!), stop by the Maryland Model Yacht Club, and test your skills at the helm of a high-tech model yacht. You can also try out the EZ Dock, which makes kayaking more accessible for all. With stability and durability for exiting and boarding kayaks, these are designed to be helpful for seniors or anyone that could benefit in assistance for launching or recovering from kayaking.

Boating School

If you’re interested in sailing, but haven’t the slightest clue on the basics, get ready to be schooled at Cruisers University. Cruisers University will host workshops providing lessons from professionals and hands-on experience on all the basics of sailing. Classes include Communications for Cruisers, 5 Step Plan to Successful Cruising, Anchoring & Docking: Tips & Tactics, just to name a few.

Some of the things cruiser students will learn are how to troubleshoot and maintain engines; navigate in coastal and offshore weather; and maintain a boat above and below the waterline. Cruisers University takes place at the Naval Academy Club at the United States Naval Academy.

All Aboard for Fun

No matter if you are a serious sailor or just browsing, there is something for everyone at the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show. Guests will enjoy daily entertainment, music, prizes, jazz ensembles, and wine and beer tastings. The picturesque view that City Dock has to offer is just added bonus, and be sure to stay through the evening to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
