There’s always something going on in Montréal in spring, whether the snow is still falling or melting. But the summer is even more packed with events and attractions. This is the season when the city offers plenty of festivals and locals are out enjoying all kinds of outdoor activities. Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect when planning a Montreal summer getaway.
Surf and SUP on Saint-Lawrence River
Montreal city is surrounded by the Saint-Lawrence River and in recent years, surf and SUP have become quite popular. River surfing is just one of the city’s hidden gems and companies like KSF will set you up to fully appreciate the experience. You can rent all the equipment you’ll need and all you have to do is get on your board and be ready to catch the wave like a pro. If you prefer SUP, you can even take yoga classes on the river during the sunset. What a way to end your day!
If you are looking for an outdoor activity on dry land, take the time to walk around the Mount-Royal. You can either take the short (ie: hard) or long way to get to the top! Don’t worry; the climb is worth it, and you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the city. Depending on the day of the week, there may be a free workout on the top of the mountain led by volunteers. It’s a great way to get in shape for free.
What’s so fun about summer in Montreal is that there are parks everywhere you go, across the city. Some of them, such as the Mount-Royal Park or the Lafontaine Park, are great places to have a BBQ with friends, or simply relax while enjoying a beer or glass of wine. If you want to do as the real Montrealers do, discover the city by using the Bixi bike system. It makes getting around convenient and is also pretty cheap.
Enjoy the sunshine!
